Danube Delta
The prime reason for my Romania trip was the opportunity to spend time in the much lauded, Danube Delta.
A few days here, watching and photographing many species of birds - proved a simply wonderful experience. So much so that quite often, the camera was set aside so that my mind could better contemplate and try to absorb the wonders in front of me.
Regrettably, one of my key target species the Black-necked Grebe, was late arriving at the breeding grounds and was clearly becoming accustomed to the delta making it very hard to get the images I had hoped for - but I did have a bonus.
At no stage in the preparations had I considered seeing a European Wildcat - but we did. Although a wary cat by nature, its attempts to remain hidden behind the lush green reeds were not quite perfect and we were able to watch it for a little while and to get a couple of record shots.
