Lake Kerkini
The trip was planned in the anticipation of finding the Dalmatian and White Pelicans in their breeding plumages.
Snow and ice abounded and the daytime temperature was mostly around 0°.
It was so cold that every morning the local fisherman needed to break the thick ice layer covering the entire lake so that they could recover their nets and any possible catch.
Their actions also allowed the various bird species access to open water to fish for themselves.
Some of the more interesting images came from watching the behaviour of the Pelicans and other birds as they waited for an area of ice to be broken and then take advantage of the open water afterwards.
