Lewa Game Conservancy

The Lewa Game Conservancy is renowned for the quality and range of wildlife that a visitor can see.

The target species for this trip were the rhinos, both the black rhinoceros and the white rhinoceros.

The black rhino is a browser, eating leaves and smaller twigs from the bushes so it has evolved a “pointed" mouth shape allowing it to pick at the more tender, juicier pieces between the branches.

The white rhino is a grazer, eating grass in much the same way as cattle, horses or sheep. It too has evolved a specialised mouth shape. A wide, rectangular mouth which allows it to crop the grass close to the earth in a wide mouthful.

Other important targets were Cats.
The pride of lions and the group of cheetahs known as "the Brothers" were key residents of the conservancy.
