Eagle Hides
In the Hortobagy National Park, a number of specialist hides have been constructed that allow excellent opportunities to photograph raptors.
Each morning, it was a very early start as we needed to be in the hide of that day before dawn and would not leave before dusk. That way we would not disturb the eagles which might well have deterred them from feeding.
Our starts were so early that there was ice and frost underfoot as we carefully made our way across churned up fields to the various hides by torchlight.
Our main target for this trip was the White-tailed Eagle and the site certainly delivered. The number of White-tailed Eagles seen across the week was greater than I had expected but it was another eagle that turned up for just one morning that caused me to hold my breath - a life tick - an Eastern Imperial Eagle!
